Gayle Conelly Manchin (born June 20, 1947) is the wife of U.S. Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia and served as West Virginia's First Lady from 2005 to 2010. She grew up in Beckley, West Virginia and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Language Arts and Education and a Master of Arts in Reading from West Virginia University. In 1967, she married Joe Manchin and settled in Fairmont, West Virginia, having three children. In 1999, Salem International University awarded her second Master’s degree, in Educational Technology Leadership.[1]

She then worked in education, including as a member of the faculty of Fairmont State University. She later served as Director of the AmeriCorps Promise Fellow Program in West Virginia[1]

During his term, the Governor appointed her to serve in a number of other service positions.[1]
